I rented a car in for the remainder of my time in Ireland. It was a stick on the opposite side so I was a little nervous upon leaving Belfast, but a cute little blond in my hostel assured me I would not regret the decision. She was dead right. I turned on the radio at the rental agency and “Flight of the Valkyries” by Wagner was playing, and that was all I needed to brave the narrow back roads and highways of Ireland.

When I arrived at my sumptuous B&B, I was an old pro again on a stick.

My home for four days.

WHAT A VIEW

DOWNTOWN DONEGAL

DONEGAL CASTLE

FISHING BOATS

SLIABH LIAG – Cliffs of considerable magnitude.

SLIABH LIAG – The white dots leading up the hill are sacks of stones dropped by helicopter for the purpose of building walkways up the hill.

THE CRESCENT BEACH

It looks a lot like the Scottish Highlands.

Sunset at my B&B.

Another magnificent drive in the countryside. Thank goodness I rented the car!

Glenveagh National Park – It’s just pretty everywhere you go.

GLENVEAGH CASTLE – 19th Century

A GOTHIC GREENHOUSE

THE DRIVE TO GALWAY

Just driving through the countryside like this with all of the stone walls is so sublime.

The machine that makes my little sojourn possible.

WATERFALLS WITH BABBLING BROOKS

Even getting a little lost is pleasant when taken in the right perspective.

Some of the signs leading down the back roads were sabotaged, and I never did find those bleeding Faeries. Probably hanging out with Nessie anyway.
NEXT STOP GALWAY…
