DOMINICA: Roseau – Three Day Vacay – #79

Posted by on Mar 18, 2017 in Uncategorized | 6 Comments

I spent the night in Guadeloupe last night in order to catch the ferry to Dominica this morning. Your question may be how can I say I’m taking a three day vacation when I’m on permanent vacation? I guess because in this case, I am taking a vacation from a lot of dashing around, and just doing a couple of days of scuba diving in this little Caribbean island. I splurged on a nice little dive lodge with an ocean view room, onsite dive operation and restaurant. My first dive is tomorrow morning.

My final day features a barbecue and live jazz in the evening. It will  be a perfect end to a perfect day. After diving in the morning on Sunday they offer a whale watching trip which may include Sperm whale sightings. Dominica is known to have some of the best whale watching in the Caribbean, but after diving in the morning I’d hate to miss my afternoon nap. I also wouldn’t care to spend 3 1/2 hours on a boat on the off chance that we wouldn’t see any.

Ferry to Dominica – A very seaworthy boat but we tossed about unmercifully on the way to our destination. I got even whiter than usual with a case of the cold sweats. It was a shame since I had motion sickness patches in backpack that was stowed away in the hold. I will install one for the trip back to Guadeloupe, and for the day of snorkeling from the mainland to the tiny island of Petit-Terre.

CASTLE COMFORT LODGE – View from my balcony.

Covered bar and dining areas – Necessary for frequent but brief showers to maintain the lush green vegetation.

DOWNSCALE LOCAL DWELLING

FISHERMAN SELLING HIS CATCH –  Mahi-Mahi is third from left. Aka – Dolphin or Dorado

OPEN-AIR BAR

Nice to be on the side of the island where the sun sets.

                                                      LAST DAY

DIVE – AMAZING

BBQ – TASTY

NAP – SUBLIME

JAZZ – QUALITY SOUNDS

LOBSTER – GRILLED GOODNESS

SUNSET – PRICELESS

A Cruise Ship heads for another idyllic Caribbean destination.

I wonder how many more of these I’ll see in my life? How about you? This is a finite engagement.

A very good stay. The local goat burgers were phenomenal.

I think your itinerary of diving, dining, napping, entertainment, and sunset-watching is just about perfect!

I was relieved to see that the run down building with the purple roof wasn’t your dwelling!

I’m envious of your cruise experience, but I’ll live vicariously through your photos and dialogue as have with all of your destinations.

I’m very glad that you are having so many diving opportunities. I’m thinking the waterproof cover for your camera may edge higher on your wish list.

Karen, I just picked up a waterproof case for my iPhone so I will come up with some underwater photos for the blog. I’ve got a couple of snorkeling tours set up on the upcoming cruise as well.

Yay, I can’t wait to see the results! I’m so excited for you to experiment with underwater photos. It will be lovely to be able to share that world with us.

I’ll be breaking out the underwater sleeve for my iPhone in Martinique in a couple of days. Hopefully there’s something worth taking pictures of.

Im back and looking forward to the next 20 or 30 minutes of getting caught up with your travels. This looked like a nice little stop for you. How was the diving? lots of coral and marine life? Sounds like the phone is going under soon. Nerve racking! lol Be brave.

Dominica’s diving was excellent with sponges as tall as me. Add to that a place called Champagne Reef where little bubbles come up from bottom of ocean due to venting of volcanic gases and heated water. It was nice to get in two days of exceptional diving.
